“Today we have a much better world than yesterday. We are more civilized, we have a proper government, a proper way of handling state affairs. We have democracy and are free from dogmatic ideas. In that past, a king invading another nation was a common thing and happened more often. Today’s world has changed through the industrial revolutions, we have technology, we are more wiser than our forefathers, we live in the 21st century” — That is a part of a speech or something similar you might have heard quiet often. Well, in such speeches we gauge our development with respect to our forefathers and then seem to always conclude that we are more civilzed than them or more informed than them on all matters. It is like the story of the arrogant teacher, who believed that he is better than his student in all matters and met his end. Its only a fictional short story I made - A disciple who had learnt much about the Earth save the growth of saplings came to a teacher to learn just that. The student was knowledgable in a number of matters and had travelled many nation. The teacher gave his lessons and days passed and soon the disciple had leanrt the matter he came to be educated on. After this period the teacher and student became friends and happened to go into a kingdom of humans who had some strange customs. The disciple who had known of their customs through his travels and told his teacher on what they found customary and what they didn’t, he instructed the teacher on what shouldn’t be done. However, the teacher couldn’t bear taking instructions on any matter from his student who is below him. Soon, they move into the kingdom and the arrogant teacher meets his end, after doing that which is not customary or considered rude numerous times. A simple moral being, that no person, no matter how knowledgable has enough to be arrogant and unheeding of others. We might have even a great deal to learn from old and young, we shouldn’t be hesitant to learn these; our sense of self-pride should obsrtuct us if we need to become more knowledgable and truly learned. In the same way, we do have things to learn from our past people, even though we are technologically much advanced than them.
In this 21st century, after having developed this technology with the accumulation of knowledge from our ancestors, many of us believe ourselves to be above them all and look at them as ‘barbarians’ - quiet arrogantly. Well, this world with its huge amount of poverty and with the rat race of urban civilization, is its own form of barbarity.
We even generally take the knowledge we have accumulated for granted. Because we have only benefitted from their works and it isn’t an independent knowledge, its not like we came from cavemen to computer geniuses in this era, is it? Even after all that we have done, our technology is very resource-parasitic and thus leaves us to actually spread like a virus on the planet. But despite this, the man of this 21st century, will consider himself more civilized than all his earlier people. Technology was bound to come in time, it is not completely a measure of how civilized we are. For many, the modern man’s, technological advancements is what has makes them believe that he is more worthy than all before him – its that sense of “civilized”, I am pointing as being an illusion.
Humans, hitherto are quiet used to being on the “top of the eco-system”, that we fear anything that may be “above” us in its power, out there. Its only because we impose what we have done to less technological peoples or animals, to people who visit from Outer Space. This leads to a fear inside many, and those who can’t even think of that dreadful self-constructed idea, and thus deny the existence of those who are surely more technologically advanced than us. Many will be drawn to a feeling of complete fear on clear knowledge of the existence of such beings who are extra-terrestrial.
Hawkin’s Statement: A Joke for me
Arrogant and rash assumption are done by ”rational” scientists too. Like Stephen Hawkin for example. When asked if we (Earth Humans) were alone in this Universe, he said “Probably not”. And then, he said that if intelligent life did exist we would have stumbled on some “alien quiz shows” as he asked as to why we hadn’t! Immedeately comes his assumption that extra-terrestrial life is primitive! Rather Stephen Hawking’s statement seems to make an assumption on the actions and contact methods of Extra-terrestrials. Now that assumption is based on the fact that we as humans know everything about the ETs, but never once thought of the option that they wouldn’t contact us considering how prasitic we are and how miserable much of our world is presently. He added “If the human race is to continue for another million years, we will have to boldly go where no one has gone before.” Stephan Hawking is one the world’s leading scientists, its quiet ignorant of him to make such a remark! In truth if ETs visit us they will technologically be far advanced than us. Despite this we see Holywood movies like Independence Day, and Mars Attacks to see how “Earth armies” defeat ET armies. Well, let me admit that watching all that is fun, and that is what the Hollywood directors want. But in truth, if any such war, if it were to occur would be a joke for them and unless these “Earth armies” themselves have a “Cosmic alliance” we would be defeated in a worse manner than the Australian Aborigines were by the Colonial British !!! 
A word on ETs conquesting though: Either they are not interested, or they are other ET parties saving us. But we will stick to the script in which we ourselves defeat ET armies. Its our fanatasy of heroism! Now just why didn’t aliens leave us an “alien quiz show?” Why don’t they come in front of us? Are there answers? The point is we might just be quiet primitve for them and they might have their own style of revealing themselves to different civilzations in the expanse of the Cosmos. They might not be interested in taking conquest, or as stated above they have tried only to be repelled by other ET parties or perhaps we are already conquested but fail to see it!!
Regarding Stephen Hawking’s “boldly go to where no one has gone before” — It again shows his arrogance, that he sees the Earth man as capable of everything that none have done before. Till now, whatever we have explored is within our Earth, and furthest, the Moon. Its is like tribals who have understood their island and surrounding waters and islands, but fancy they are better than everything else beyond the sea (Outerspace, in this context). Or they completely deny that anything exists beyond the seas!! And truthfully, even much of Earth is a mystery to us. We haven’t even the ability to take a manned mission to planets of the Solar System, lets speak of “those places” (where “no one has gone before“) much later. There have been a number of visitations and people who are unrelated across the globe give similar or same information of Extra-Terrestrials. Many of these people don’t even know about stars or planets and live in farms. There is more than necessary proof of ET visitation on Earth.
So, let me relate to the reader how great is Earth technology to the ETs that visit Earth:
The fastest man made object is the Helios-2 satellite which has a speed of 70.22 km/second or 70220 m/s. Just imagine moving 70.22 km in one second, that is faster than any material object we (in normal life) have seen or usually think of. That is about 35 times the speed of an X-15 A USAF jet. With that speed of Helios-2 we would reach the closest star to the Sun which is Proxima Centuri in over 18,000 years !!! Even if we neglect the impossible inertial effects a manned crew moving at about 70 km/second has to experience, the crew would be long dead even if we could maintain fuel supply for such a long time! Earth would have drastically changed in that course too, no doubt. Now, Proxima Centuri is just 4.22 light years away. The ETs that people claim to have met say they come from Zeta Reticuli (~39 light years away) or even Deneb (3200 lightyears away). In the distances, I have ignored parallax uncertainites because this is not an astronomy article. Any of those distances is too great to travel. But, the important point is if these ETs do visit us within spans of a few mintues or hours as contactees claim, they are well advanced than us. But soon man is drenched in a fear of being subjugated and/or destroyed. But that is only because we reflect our own behaviour, of how we invaded animals and their homes or other humans, and project that nature to the nature of those ETs! Many ETs who are very intelligent have come here. But they chose whether to contact us or not. Stephen’s idea of “we know the ET” is as foolish as it is arrogant. And even movies (though they are fun to watch 
) are not anything close to what may be the reality. This is why Captain Solok (fictional character of the Vulcan crew in the Star Trek series) in my header says: “What arrogant humans!” Because we have grown arrogant, in feeling a sense of accomplishment and “territorial conquest”, which we see as a sign of power in our small Earth believing ourselves to be everything worthy.
This might perhaps be the reason certain parties of ETs don’t contact us or keep their contacts discrete. And then when we compare ourselves to ETs and their possible technologies we still say “we would go where none have gone before” - thats silly! Now I am not making a relation with technology and ethical development, the two may be very well unrelated – which is why we don’t become more civilized on having technology as I said earlier. And saying thus, technological ETs might be in great number who are barbaric, but there are defenitely others who are civilized in the true sense of the word. But the question is where will our mountain egos seek refuge when we find out that we are just one planet in this gigantic cosmos and not the ‘boss the of the system’? Surely, most people will be uneasy about it. Hence the question comes: Do they choose to contact us? Infact, some governments have been contacted according to the words of some induviduals who claim to be contacted by beings from other planets, but we all today can understand how governments lie. On the other hand, let the failures of SETI and like organization not fool anyone! The question isn’t “Can they contact us?” or “Do they exist?” The question is: “Do they chose to contact us?”.
If they have, do we know how our governments have hid such a contact? With our arrogance and high opinions of ourselves, we might not even be ready in their opinion to be contacted on a large scale. We dwell in our island called “Earth”, scattered into zillion ideologies and tribes.
